Opera at Habitat Series - Beethoven’s Fidelio


(sung in German with English subtitles/123 mins). As the year of Beethoven’s 250th birth anniversary commences,SunitTandonintroduces a live video film of his only opera. Florestan is a political prisoner. To rescue him, his wife, Leonore, joins the staff of the prison, disguised as a young man 'Fidelio'. The gaoler Rocco’s daughter, Marzelline, falls in love with this young man, rejecting the advances of her father’s assistant, Jacquino.Leonore finds her husband just before the prison governor, Pizzaro, attempts to kill him. She prevents this attempt by revealing her true identity, when a trumpet announces the arrival of the Minister for Justice, who saves the day.Venue: Stein Auditorium
