Much before Corona arrived, an elderly couple lived in a suburban town of West Bengal, in a humble abode with their son’s family, spending their times bantering with their grandson. Then, one day, the son left in search of a better life! The bond with their much-loved grandson was broken. And then there was Corona! The solace that they sought in their grandson’s photographs and his scribblings on walls was overlapped by alien-looking health-workers in PPE kits entering their house and lives! Can they save themselves and their home filled with memories of their little grandson fromthis unprecedented crisis?

6. Angh (India, Nagaland/ Konyak/2021/22 mins)

It is 1963 and Christianity has overwhelmingly taken a hold of Nagaland. Abandoned by his tribe and living in isolation following his wife’s death, a village chief and former feared and respected Headhunter proudly holds onto his ancestral ways, determined to carry them on to posterity through his son, Amao. But all the teenage boy wants is a sense of belonging.
Commanding visuals that evoke an aura of mythical proportions immerse us into a fascinating and little-known part of history. Working with non-actors from the indigenous population, Theja Rio tells a small intergenerational tale with beautiful intimacy, while also confidently inviting us to contemplate questions of immense scope and complexity, such as the political repercussions of homogenization of culture and the cost of religion to centuries-old tradition and thought.

7. Cycle(Hindi, Bengali, Odia, Telugu/2021/20mins)

A wronged young tribal woman, in the absence of systemic justice, turns rebel, but struggles to be able to fulfill all the expectations that the path to retribution demands. A multilingual short film shot on a phone camera as found footage, and filmed in three uninterrupted long takes. The film features a large and ethnically varied cast, most of who were facing a camera for the first time ever.
