EVENTS AT HABITAT WORLD, IHC

Dear Member,

As the monsoon melts away having done its share of greening the city for the forthcoming Green Games, the Habitat calendar bridges the change in season and tempo of the city's beat with an eclectic programme profile.

The month opens with the Park’s New Festival 2010 on the 3rd with a Solo Contemporary dance recital by Preethi Athreya. 20th follows it up with the Embassy of Israel presenting the India Premiere of Swan Lake by Idan Cohen & Company, based on the monumental musical piece of Pyotr IIyich Tchaikovsky going by the same name while the exquisite grace of Aranyani Bhargav, disciple of Leela Samson takes centre stage on the 24th.

Music weaves its magical charm this month with an evening of Qawwali by Nizami Brothers on the 22nd, Priyadarshini Kulkarni & Ulhas Kashalkar rendering, on the occasion of Mallikarjun Mansur's birth centenary, a Hindustani Vocal recital on the 25th, followed by a Sarod recital by Biswajit Roy Chowdhury & Vocal by Rajshekhar Mansur the following evening. Bombay Jayashri’s Carnatic refrains reverberate through the colonnade Centre on the 29th with Priyadarsini Govind setting the stage aflame with a Bharatanatyam recital following soon thereafter.

In view of the recent honour killings under the guise of gotra and caste demands, Prof. Bharat Gupt delivers a lecture on Caste, Love And Honour Killings: Religion Or Vote Politics? on the 13th. Indapryal & Mapryal (Russia) present India And Russia In The Third Millennium: Dialogue Of Cultures on the 15th, while Ravinder Kaur, sociologist and professor, IIT Delhi, speaks on sculptor and visual artist Prune Nourry’s latest work, Holy Daughter, literally a cow-girl, commenting on Asia’s trend of terminating pregnancies after diagnosing the fetus’s gender. On a warmer note, Kisse Kahaniyan - Stories From Literature Series brings alive the spirit of R. K. Narayan’s characters in its cozy discursive session on 17th, while Shiv Khera, author of You Can Win weaves his corporate charm on 21st.

Health talks reign this month- focusing both on physical and mental health. Dr. P. N. Renjen & Dr. (Prof.) Ramesh Tripathi, senior consultants with Indraprastha Apollo Hospitals, work towards making us more aware of the nature of Strokes- their causes and solution on the 14th. VIMHANS educates us on the teens in our lives with their first session in the Teen Series titled Trials, Troubles & Tribulations on the 17th while Dr. Manjari Tripathi, AIIMS educates us upon the stigma of epilepsy on the 21st.

The film lovers have it going for them with the widely divergent package offered by PSBT OPEN FRAME 2010 from the 10th -16th, highlighting issues of gender, politics, conflict and peace. Vir Das and his troupe, Weirdass Comedy, inflicts the month with a ticklish side to it with their rip-roaring theatrical presentation, The Cardinal Bengans on the 19th.
